Slab Yard Diagnostic Protocol

Quartzite is widely mislabeled in the trade — slabs sold as quartzite are sometimes dolomitic marble (e.g., Super White) or hybrid marble/quartzite layers (e.g., Fantasy Brown). Before you commit, run two quick tests from your Stone ID Kit to confirm the slab is genuine quartzite.

Resin Fill Present

Like most Brazilian quartzites, Elbrus Quartzite may contain polyester resin fill to stabilize the stone. In areas with significant direct sunlight, the resin can gradually yellow over time. Ask your supplier about the type of resin used — UV-stable epoxy resin is less prone to yellowing than standard polyester resin.

⚡

Classification Disputed — Test Recommended

The geological classification of Elbrus Quartzite is disputed in the industry. Different suppliers may classify it differently. We strongly recommend requesting a petrographic test from an independent laboratory before purchasing, especially if acid sensitivity or hardness is critical for your application.
