True Geology: Sodalite Syenite

Blue Bahia is commercially sold as granite, but is geologically a sodalite syenite. This affects its actual physical and chemical properties.

Slab Yard Diagnostic Protocol

Granite is one of the most reliable countertop stones — durable, heat resistant, and rarely mislabeled. A short verification with your Stone ID Kit confirms the slab matches the spec.

Blue Bahia / Azul Bahia: Test for Calcite Areas

Blue Bahia is a sodalite-rich material sold commercially as granite. Some slabs may contain calcite-bearing areas in the matrix, so acidic spills or cleaners can dull or etch those areas. Test the actual slab before purchase and use pH-neutral care only.

Factory Resin — Direct Sunlight Caution

Blue Bahia is commonly factory-resined to consolidate fissures and stabilize the slab for sale. Standard resin is often not UV-stable and may discolor or lighten with prolonged direct sunlight. For sunny windows, outdoor kitchens, sunrooms, or exterior use, ask the supplier/fabricator about resin type and UV protection before buying.

True Geology: Sodalite Syenite

Blue Bahia is commercially sold as granite, but it is geologically a sodalite syenite. This distinction matters because true geological classification determines the stone's actual physical and chemical properties — which affects how it performs, how it should be maintained, and how it reacts to acids and moisture.
